Background Information

The substance of the "Dirty Bomb" threat is the invisible nature of radiation.  Even at life-threatening levels of radiation a person may feel nothing for some time. Worse yet, at moderate and low levels the effects may not be detected without the passage of months or perhaps years[2].

How would you know?

How would you know if terrorists were using your hotel to stage an attack, or to hide a dirty bomb?  How would you know if an industrial radioactive source was spilling gamma radiation onto unsuspecting tenants or workers? Are criminals using your transportation facilities to move radioactive or fissile materials? Have your first-responders driven their aid trucks into a hot zone at the site of a bomb blast?  Have your police officers unknowingly stopped a vehicle carrying radioactive contraband?

Passive Detection™

Existing solutions to these scenarios require manual scans by personnel using hand-held survey meters, or maintaining and wearing a monitoring device every day.  Typically these devices are battery operated, or are rechargeable, and are deployed only when a particular suspicion is raised.  The equipment must be turned on.  Because the equipment is rarely used it tends to be neglected.  When needed most the monitoring equipment may be unavailable to respond to an emerging situation or threat. The solution is Passive Detection™: A radiation sensor that is always on, and continuously tested.  The solution is automatic radiation sensors that can be widely deployed, and integrated with existing monitoring systems such as asset tracking and communication systems, or your facility's centrally monitored security/fire protection system.

With Passive Detection™ Radiation Sensors deployed on your fleet, or in your facility, you can detect significant levels of radiation and take appropriate action, giving you the edge in dealing with the radiation threat.  All this can be deployed without the headache of maintaining survey meters and battery-powered pagers, or the training required to interpret survey data.
